stage 2 optimisation

The level of optimisation required will be detailed in the optimisation report. This allows you or your client to make the amendments directly or commission Group Solutions to implement the necessary modifications on your behalf.

Search Engine XML Sitemap

XML sitemaps have replaced the older method of submitting to search engines using dedicated forms, we now create an XML Sitemap that Bing, Yahoo, Ask, and Google use to crawl the website.

As the major Search Engines use the same protocol, having a sitemap grants them access to the updated page information. It is important to note that sitemaps do not guarantee that all links will be crawled, and being crawled does not guarantee indexing. However, a sitemap is the best method for ensuring that a search engine will have knowledge of your client’s entire website.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website. Group Solutions will create an account for your client and implement the necessary analytics code into each individual page of their website.

Search Engine Verification

Implementation of Search Engine verification code on to each individual webpages ensures that the website gains trust and credibility from the search engines. It also opens access to additional search engine tools that contribute to a wider ranging SEO campaign.

Title, Meta and Description Tags

Meta tags are elements hardcoded within the header of each individual page and are used to provide structured metadata (page title, description and keywords) about a specific webpage.

It used to be believed that the purpose of the meta description tag was twofold – to help the page rank highly for the words that were contained within it as well as to provide a description in the search engine results pages. However, similar to the meta keywords tag, the information placed in the description tag does not carry any weight in the ranking of Google, and only a tiny amount of weight with Yahoo.

Generally, 200 to 250 characters may be indexed by search engines, although only a smaller portion of this amount may be displayed within the listings of search engines. For this reason it is extremely important to describe the page as well as possible and as early as possible within the tag.

ALT Tags

The use of ALT Tags in terms of search engine optimisation is becoming less important. They have been abused by web developers in the past who have placed streams of keywords in ALT Tags. Because of this, the major search engines have lowered the importance of ALT Tags in their ranking criteria. However, ALT Tags are a required element for accessibility – every image must have an ALT Tag, and each ALT Tag should be properly implemented.

Other Optimisation

We will also advice on any additional copy or revisions to existing copy that will aid search engine optimisation. These copy revisions may include revise site heading to incorporate key phrases, ensure that site headings are using <h1> and/or <h2> tags and also the placement of key phrases within <b> or <strong> tags.

Another optimisation technique is to increase the internal linking between pages on the site and we also deal with any site structure or URL structure issues that may hinder search engine optimisation.
